My name is Rufus and I live here with my other herd friends at Boycott Farm. You can meet me, see my fleece being spun and finally see finished garments in the Naked Sheep shop, all on the farm! Not only that, but no chemicals or dye stuffs are used in the processing- of course, I’m handsome enough without using hair dye but here is the science bit:
It wasn’t until 1836 when Sir Titus Salt introduced Alpaca yarn to the manufacturing industry, that South America’s ‘little secret’ was discovered by Europe. Since the 1990’s alpaca ownership outside of Peru, Chile and Bolivia has grown massively, resulting in an explosion of yarn manufacture in the UK using sourced Alpaca fleece. The UK Alpaca Industry is focused on producing some of the best quality animals to ensure that the best fleeces are being used in the country’s rapidly expanding manufacturing business.
